Final Line up

These are the designs i have chosen to put together as my final line up. I feel that they encompass the main themes of my concept being, isolation with the hoods, restriction with the body con style and the body suit silouhetes, fragility with the muted skin tones, distortion and fragmentation with the paneling and pleating.
As this project is a colaboration project the themes being taken from my concept are the distortion with the subtraction cutting, which is relevant to all of our concepts. There will also be an essence of restriction and paneling in the bralet that we will make. Also the colour pallete muted pinks and the grey for the trousers will fit well with the colour scheme i have chosen for my designs.

Collaboration design proposal

After experimenting with the subtraction cutting technique with the trousers in the toiling stage we decided that we would definatly use this technique as the volume and distortion of the fabric works well with charlottes design ideas and concept. Paris has designed some of her garments using magnets as a fastening. We thought that this would be an interesting feature and fits with Paris' concept. We have designed a pair of subtraction cut trousers that have a flap at the front. this flap is then fastened together by a row of ball-bearing magnets that attract to each other like a magnetic zip.
As the majority of my designs have a a paneled cup bra in them we have decided to make a bralet top to go with the trousers. The colours that we are going to use are a muted nude pink tone for the bralet and a grey fabric for the trousers which are colours that we have all designed with.

We experimented further with the subtraction cutting on the trousers to see what results we came up with as every time you do it it turns out differently. We documented where we plotted the circles to keep a record so as when we came to the silouhete we liked we knew where to plot the circles for the subtraction cutting on our final garment.

collaboration

We experimented using different hole placements either all on the front, all on the back or some on the front an back, we quite liked the placement on the front a the back as it distorted the fabric nicely. This distortion of farbic also represents the distortion of communication in all of our concepts. They also help to create the volume in Paris and Charlottes designs.

My group consists of myself Paris Hawkins-Carr and Charlotte Haldane. For our collaboration we all have concepts that centre around a disconnection or distortion of communication and a sense of silence. My designs focus on a restriction and distortion of the fabrics and the fragmentation of the body using a body-con style of paneling and knife pleating. The body-con look represents the restriction and the isolation of a feral children. Paris and Charlottes designs also focus in one way or another of paneling however they have more volume to them therefore we had to come up with a collaboration design that incorporated all of our main themes. Luckily our colour pallete was similar in all three of our designs with muted hues of pinks, skin tones and greys being the dominant colours. We started off our collaboration by experimenting with subtraction cutting a pair of trousers.

fragmented woman

This painting called fragmented woman has given me inspiration for paneling on my designs. I hope for my panelling to create different shapes, distorting the fabric around the body.

distortion, reflection and fragmentation

I like the way this image show the distortion of the person in the mirror due to the different segment and fragments. I feel it is representational of a feral child in the way that they are someone who has a multi dimensional complexity of which we can understand due to the fact that we are unable to communicate with the subject. The fragments of the mirror also link well with the paneling i intend to use in some of my designs.

research evaluation and design proposals cont....

From the research i have collated so far, i think i would like to experiment with paneling and pleating to create new lines for the body therefore creating a distorted view of it. To demonstrate the isolation and restriction my designs will have a very body-con like feel to the, with very figure hugging garments. My colour pallete will consist of muted pinks and skin tones to give a innocence and fragility the the clothes.

Picasso

This painting titled 'Girl before a mirror' is another example of a distorted reflection again it shows the use of geometric shapes which could again be demonstrated by panelling helping to distort the body and work against the natural contours.
This painting entitled 'weeping woman' by Pablo Picasso is the perfect example of distortion as nothing is how it should be, or as we deem "normal". Picasso was a co founder of the cubist movement. I like the cubism effect, this could be shown in my designs by the use of panelling to help contour and reshape the human from.

concept thoughts

I like how this image shows the subjects eye contact through a series of reflections. I like the thought that looking at a feral child is almost like looking at someone through a mirror, as you cant communicate with a reflection, a reflection has no feelings or emotions. This becomes a distorted image of the person as their left becomes their right and vice versa, much like a feral child has a distorted communication and understanding of their surroundings due to their isolation from it.

research evaluation and design proposals

looking at my research images they all centre around a feeling of fragility, isolation and restriction. With reguards to design ideas i would like to experiment with designs involving restriction, and also i like the idea of hoods as a form of hiding and isolating the wearer from the outside world.

research images

These images all possess a sense of fragility and a disconnection or blurring of emotion due to either a lack of eye contact or something blocking the face. This links to the lack of communication skills a feral child has, as by not being presented with the relevant stimulus to develop language, communication and therefore emotions during the critical period they can never truly make themselves understood.
